Verdict

Another wide-open handicap. Among many to consider are Frontier, Red To Violet, Star Of Normandie, Fen Gipsy, Rustic Charm, Rotuma, Smoothie and Dickie Deadeye, with Smoothie getting our vote. Going through the field. Frontier is very well handicapped on his form of three years ago and has proven himself capable of running well from his current mark. Red To Violet is back on a winning mark, while Star Of Normandie can go well from his current rating and will handle the going. Indian Welcome has recently won twice on the AW and, if transferring that form to Turf, could go well. Complete Circle is lightly-raced, has won on the AW and can go well in this run-of-the-mill handicap, although he is unproven on the going. Fen Gipsy is a course winner and will act on the going. Rustic Charm must have been hard to assess based on three maiden runs but his form does not read too badly and he is now stepping up in trip. Rotuma has won over this trip and on this going and, from a six-pound higher mark for having done so, is entitled to have supporters. Jair Ohmsford's best form so far has been with give in it, while Smoothie now finds himself back on a winning mark and is another to pay some heed to. Critical Stage ran very well at Newbury last time and the step up a further furlong in trip might see him go well too. Dicky Deadeye might go well at a big price as his best form makes him competitive and his trainer's horses are now beginning to run well from their new base. It's a nightmare of a race really and maybe Smoothie can score.
