Nonrunner

In depth

Verdict

Not a bad race of its type this with Cavallini, Leo's Lucky Star, Petito and Lagavulin all having claims and the vote goes to Lagavulin. Emma Lavelle's runner showed a fair bit of improvement when runner-up to the decent Woolcombe Folly on fast ground at Wincanton last time. Trip and ground are similar here and this colt has the scope for plenty more improvement, so we will take him to up the ante and score. Cavallini should not be far away, based on a good ground run behind Qrackers at Fontwell earlier in the month. He is quite a consistent sort who can probably be relied upon to take a close hand again here. Leo's Lucky Star has not won since his juvenile days on the flat, and has become frustrating to follow, but he almost ended that losing sequence last time out at Stratford and with conditions to his liking here and some solid form on the board he should be bang there. Musango is an interesting debutante for Tim Vaughan and a look at the market is advised there, while Stuart Howe's Party Palace drops back in trip and would not be without a chance if he has the speed for shorter. However, Lagavulin looks a colt on the up and can break his maiden tag here.
