      Verdict

      POET’S SOCIETY has not managed a win this year but it’s not for the want of trying. He ran a cracker when fourth to Golden Apollo in a valuable York handicap 12 days ago, though could have done without a 2lb rise. Rio Ronaldo won more easily than the margin suggests at Sandown and holds Musical Comedy on that run. He will be suited by the likely strong pace and Excellent George would have claims if transferring his all-weather form back to Turf. Compas Scoobie has still to win on this surface but is running well enough to get involved and preferred to Justice Lady.
