Verdict

The last three winners all won the Futurity as a two-year-old. One Ruler went close in the latter contest at Doncaster last year though William Buick prefers the recent Craven winner here, Master Of The Seas, and both of the above make more appeal than a third Godolphin runner in Naval Crown. Last year’s Dewhurst Stakes looked a strong trial with Wembley and THUNDER MOON (NAP) filling the places. But it was soft ground on that occasion and the latter had earlier beaten Ryan Moore’s mount with Lucky Vega further behind when landing another good trial for this - the Group 1 National Stakes over 7f at the Curragh. With this extra distance and fast going sure to suit Joseph O’Brien’s colt, a bold bid is expected. Ballydoyle have won four of the last six renewals and also run Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf runner-up Battleground but Van Gogh has a bit to find with a couple of these. Chindit returned to action with a victory in the Greenham at Newbury while Mutasaabeq was supplemented for this having returned the impressive winner of a conditions race over 7f here and Poetic Flare won a Listed contest at Leopardstown last month.
