In depth

Verdict

ATHMAD, who won off a mark of 82 here in August, is still on a lower mark despite scoring at Wolverhampton where he finished strongly to lead close home. He had earlier finished just in front of Hathlool at Chelmsford and is slightly better off at the weights. Star Of St James had won three times on the Fibresand at Southwell before a battling victory over this course and distance when he had Early Morning Dew three lengths behind. All of Straitouttacompton's four all-weather victories have come on Fibresand but Philip Kirby looks to have picked up a bargain with Peripeteia, a Chelmsford maiden winner for George Boughey in December.
