This is tricky and a tentative vote goes to Shape Up ahead of Highest Regard and Carlton Scroop. Shape Up beat his Nottingham field in very good style last time but a 10 pounds rise in what is possibly a better race means he has to pull out even more stops. A return to last season's best would give Sforzando claims, while Alfonso certainly begins the year on a possibly-interesting mark. Great Quest has won off today's mark in Ireland, although that was over 12 furlongs, while Highest Regard won here over 10 furlongs from a one-pound lower mark last season so canot be ruled out on that basis. Osolomio progressed towards the end of last season and surely has better to come and Carlton Scroop comes into this race fit and well and on the back of an all-weather win. Others to mention are Intavac Boy, who is three pounds above his Beverley winning mark of last season, Tranos has scope for improvement, Le Soleil is just two pounds above a 10-furlong winning mark of last season, Danzatrice is just three pounds above his Musselburgh 14-furlong winning mark of last season, Royal Melbourne has place claims if at his best, Vice Admiral is not far off a winning mark, and Balwearie can't be ruled out from today's mark if anywhere near his best. It all adds up to a competitive affair, with the selection being Shape Up.
