In depth

Verdict

A pretty tricky race to assess here and we are going to have to keep some sort of an eye on the market, but at first glance it appears to be between Top Achiever, Planters Punch and Commemoration Day and we will side with Top Achiever. The selection gets the vote for his consistency, more than anything else. In finishing placed on each of his last three starts, the gelding has achieved a level of form better than the rest of these here, with the possible exception of Commemoration Day. He handles this sort of ground and the trip, and if he maintains his form once more then he can score. Commemoration Day's penultimate start at Haydock was arguably slightly better than anything the selection has achieved, but that was a highlight among some ordinary form. If he is in the right mood then he can go well again, but he is certainly not reliable. Of the remainder, Planters Punch looks the most interesting. Rated 69 on the level, he is a 10 furlong horse, and they often go well when tried at this trip over hurdles. That is a plus, but the big worry over him is the ground, so the colt is opposed here in favour of Top Achiever.
