In depth

Verdict

Gardasee looked one to follow when hacking up last time and should follow up at the expense of Paparaazi, with Madge and Royal Master best of the rest. Gardasee romped to a 30-length success at Hexham three weeks ago, and although in truth Tom Tate's charge had little to beat, it was hard not to be impressed by the way that he jumped and travelled. Although having a penalty to contend with here, he is the one to beat, with his ability to handle the testing conditions not in question. In contrast, Paparaazi's debut second at Ludlow came on fast ground, and he seemed to act better on faster going on the Flat, so is one to be wary of. Madge handled soft ground when second at Haydock the time before last but is still a maiden under both codes despite having had more chances than most, while Royal Master is fit from the Flat and takes a drop in grade after finishing down the field on his return to timber at Aintree. Tony Dobbin has been booked for McCormack who had just three runs on the Flat and who could be anything in time, but it is Gardasee that sets the standard and is very much the one to beat.
