In depth

Verdict

Coquet Island, Desert Realm and Masta Plasta look the three to concentrate on in the opener and the vote is given to Masta Plasta. The selection hails from the Howard Johnson yard and he caught the eye on his debut when a good second behind Guest Connections at Hamilton over 6f. He was 5l clear of the rest of the field that day and with the drop in trip unlikely to inconvenience him he looks to have an outstanding chance today. Coquet Island has run well on both of his starts to date and he was a decent third behind Fangorn Forest at Beverley last time. He will need to improve to get his head in front but he remains unexposed and he has a leading chance. Desert Realm finished second behind The Snatcher at York last time which was a decent effort, but he did hang badly to his left when under pressure. However, he was probably not suited by the soft surface that day and with this faster ground in his favour he should go well. Graduate Boy is an interesting newcomer and is worth a second look in the market, but for the winner we return to Masta Plasta.
