In depth

Formwatch

First Gold (FR) Worthy Gold Cup favourite after a highly impressive British debut in the King George. Has always been held in high regard, and barring mishaps he will be a different class to these rivals.

Shotgun Willy (IRE) Only a novice, and unbeaten in six races before running a remote third at Kempton on Boxing Day, behind Bacchanal. Willy is much better than that, and will be happier on this course, but surely he can't beat Gold?

Kingsmark (IRE) Somewhat enigmatic performer, and has disappointed in his last two starts. If back on song, he could be the one for the forecast.

Listen Timmy (NZ) Boasted useful form two years ago, where his wins included the John Hughes at Aintree. Lost his way since, though, and unlikely to play a significant role here.

Mulligan (IRE) Hasn't won for two years, doubtful that he stays three miles and he hates this ground. Unlikely to be good enough, anyway.
