        Verdict

        Dr Phibes is back in a maiden after a couple of decent performances in nurseries. He's gone very close on a number of occasions but is becoming expensive to follow and may have to settle for second-best again here behind FUNDING DEFICIT. David Barron's gelding ran his best race so far over this trip at Beverley 11 days ago and may still be on an upward curve. Gabrial's Wawa didn't do a lot wrong on his debut at Chester and will know more today but it's difficult to make much of a case for any of the others.
