Verdict

Certerach was the shock winner of this in 2014 when Star Empire was just over two lengths away in third. The latter finished runner-up behind Brown Panther a year ago and has gone well over shorter trips this campaign including a victory over 1m2f. Mike De Kock's veteran should be prominent again but stablemate Tellina has never tried this trip nor has Haafaguinea, who has been in excellent form in Group races over shorter. The consistent but luckless Suegioo has no problems staying having finished a close third in the Doncaster Cup though the UK's best hopes appear to lie with Big Orange. The Goodwood Cup winner ran a superb race in the Melbourne Cup when only just out of the places though that was his last start and the France-trained pair of Manatee and VAZIRABAD may prove too strong. The former had a nice prep-run at Chantilly three weeks ago but had finished over 7l behind his compatriot in the Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak at Saint-Cloud in October and Chistophe Soumillon's mount, who is unbeaten in his last five starts, looks the one to beat.
