        Verdict

        Stormardal is now 21lb higher than when his winning run started on New Year's Day and though all of his victories have been over the track and trip they have been at a lower level. Heavy Metal has been in excellent form in very tough handicaps and made all for a very convincing success last month. He deserves another crack at this level though faces a sterner challenge this time. Polar River completed a fillies' classic double last season before a superb effort in the UAE Derby. She's been nowhere near her best in her two starts this term but Doug Watson's horses are flying again and much better is expected. She finished a long way behind LE BERNARDIN in January and the latter, who finished third in this last year, won a Group 2 comfortably in January before finding an extended 1m1f beyond him at that same level a month ago.
