Verdict

Ferdy Murphy's Quality Control is better than we have seen so far this term but he is hard to back with confidence after two disappointing runs since coming back from a long absence and a safer option looks to be recent Ayr winner OSCAR HONEY, who gets the vote with Key Time rated the best of the rest. The selection was good value for his win at Ayr, drawing clear from two out to beat Eighteen Carat comfortably in a novices' hurdle and Rose Dobbin's gelding can follow up back in a handicap off a mark of 115. Alan King's Mr Valentino is lightly raced but needs to improve to trouble the judge, while Henrietta Knight's Benmore Boy is capable but inconsistent having won well at Towcester two starts ago before being pulled up at Fontwell last time. Malcolm Jefferson's Wot Way Chief is better than he was able to show at Haydock last time and that run is probably best ignored but a bigger threat is likely to come from Howard Johnson's Key Time, who looks to be going the right way. Oscar Honey won with plenty in hand last time though and he looks to be reasonably well treated in a handicap today having not been raised for that latest success.
