      Verdict

      SHIGHNESS reappeared after an absence to win a course and distance handicap in good style then ran well in a slightly better race at Haydock from 6lb higher. Brian Hughes takes over and Micky Hammond's mare can return to winning ways. Halifax is regularly placed though lacks a finish but Republican has raced in much better company and if back to his best would be a major threat. Here Comes McCoy won here in 2021 and was returning from a very long break when unseating at the first on his chasing debut at Warwick on New Year's Eve. Fakir is better known as a chaser though won twice over timber when trained in Ireland.
