In depth

Verdict

Olympic Conqueror placed twice around here before winning at Fakenham in March. He was then third at Huntingdon so sharp tracks clearly suit Richard Newland’s charge. Flat Stone had wind surgery before a switch to the Henderson yard but he’ll need to show an aptitude for jumping having looked modest on the Flat. BYZANTINE EMPIRE raced with enthusiasm on his hurdles bow at Newbury and ran out of steam in the closing stages. But that was a promising start and he may be more effective on this less-testing course. The Wrekin kept on when second here last month but was flattered by his proximity to the winner.
