The first division of a low-grade event but with several leading contenders in a competitive heat including Welsh Wind. The Michael Wigham-trained gelding is on a longish losing sequence but bounced back to form when a close second over a mile here last time. The six-year-old has been raised a 1lb since but remains well treated on the pick of his form and the drop in trip shouldn't be a problem so he has to be respected. Turku was successful in a Wolverhampton claimer in October and hasn't been disgraced in better company since while In Spirit remains on a handy mark and could go well if fit following an absence. Oundle Scoundrel lost his form during the summer but goes well fresh and is another to consider off this mark if anywhere near his best on his all-weather bow but the tentative vote goes to Marnie. Jon Akehurst's mare is a previous course and distance winner and has served notice of a return to the winner's enclosure following her recent placed efforts in similar company of late. The five-year-old comes here in-form and well handicapped so can gain a deserved victory in the hands of Jason Mackay.
