In depth

Verdict

LOVERS CAUSEWAY has improved for stepping up in trip on each of his starts and can go in again from old rival Septemberintherain, with Exceedthewildman the other worthy of note. Mark Johnston's son of Giant's Causeway found plenty for strong pressure when scoring over course and distance last time, for which he has been allotted a mark of 75. With just the three rivals in opposition, the hope is that Joe Fanning employs similar front-running tactics to draw the sting out of the opposition and that to us appears a very likely scenario, one that should pave the way for a follow-up victory. Septemberintherain was a well-backed favourite in the maiden won by our selection last time, eventually staying on in laboured fashion for third. At the weights he's closely matched with the Johnston runner here but we feel the run of the race may go against Terry Mills' horse once more and expect the form to be repeated. Exceedthewildman did well to win from a prolific sort last time but a 6lb rise and this step up in trip might combine to scupper hopes of a repeat performance, although the colt should still have too much for likely outsider Gold Party who needs to improve plenty for stepping beyond a mile for the first time. Just the four runners go to post here and that presents an ideal opportunity for Lovers Causeway to set off in front and lead them all home.
