In depth

Verdict

In the race of the day we respect the chances of the unbeaten Rainbow Peak but with the handicapper looking in charge now we'll side with Godolphin's BLACK EAGLE, who should get back in front now upped in trip again, while Spitfire looks a possible danger if giving his best. Despite being turned over as a short price favourite on his handicap debut last time the pick still shaped well enough to suggest this revised burden is within his scope as well as proving his liking for this surface. He's back up to the distance that he scored over on his second start and might just be better treated than his main rival. That opponent is Rainbow Peak, who boasts a record of three wins from three starts, with the latest coming in a handicap. He's up six pounds for that narrow success and while he should improve again that extra weight might be telling in this line-up. Spitfire has been running some solid races off his current mark but will need to improve for this step up in trip while Alpen Glen needs to show a bit more but is capable on his day. This is a cracking little contest that can give Godolphin another winner with Black Eagle.
