Verdict

BASE NOTE, a winner around here, gained a comfortable success over the trip at Wolverhampton then just failed to defy a 6lb rise on a return visit where coming wide didn't help. He can go in again though Protected Guest was only a head behind after being rushed into the lead at the furlong pole. The winner easily holds Pirate King on that earlier run though the latter has gained all of his four all-weather victories on this track. Oman, a winner at Chester and Salisbury, has his first all-weather start after a couple of poor attempts over timber but Capital Theory looks much more of a threat. Charlie Johnston's charge has been staying on to complete a hat-trick over shorter and should have no problems with the extra.
