Verdict

A poor contest may go to Best Woman over Splendidio and Razzano. None of these should really be trusted to carry the mortgage money, but in the hope that she will be fit after an 84-day break, Best Woman is selected to add to her sole success so far. That was also in a claimer for Mick Easterby at Thirsk in May, since when she has struggled to make any sort of impact in five outings for Paul Howling. The ability is obviously there, and she gets a great chance to reveal it here. Splendidio is also rated on a mark of 50 and lines up that bit fitter, but is still a maiden and has been beaten in even lower grade than this in the past. Razzano posted a staying on second to Zaafira in similar company here three weeks ago, and this extra furlong should suit, so she is also worth considering. Any support for the Andrew Balding newcomer Bahama Gold should be heeded as well, but we shall side with Best Woman in a race that will not last long in the memory.
