Winning bumper and hurdler Passage Vendome was expected to make a winning debut over fences at Tramore a couple of weeks ago despite an absence since October but he weakened quickly and pulled up after looking to have every chance. There could have been something amiss so it would be no surprise to see him bounce back. He had Nearest The Pin behind over hurdles at Bellewstown in August but, though the latter has been running well against stiff opposition over fences, he's difficult to win with. STEPS TO FREEDOM was in front of him when they finished behind Sizing Italy here last month and Jessica Harrington's charge has since run very well on the Flat and over hurdles. His overall form gives him the edge and he will love the fast conditions. Saint Gervais won two bumpers and the same number over timber though he may need further than this over the bigger obstacles.
