A couple of these have to be forgiven below-par efforts last time having gone close before that. Dark Scimitar was narrowly beaten at Wolverhampton on February and has a shout on that form but MAIDEN CASTLE missed out by only a neck at Chepstow on last year’s reappearance and Henry Candy’s charge may just edge this fitted with headgear on his reappearance. Crossing The Bar never figured on his debut but Sir Michael Stoute’s charge has been gelded since while Quickthorn improved in a Newmarket maiden last time and the newcomer Gentleman At Arms is worth a second glance with Jim Crowley on board.
