Captain General ended last campaign in great style and can pick up where he left off, Cleaver and Hernando Royal may provide most danger. James Toller's five-year-old made it two on the spin last Autumn, beating the decent Nawamees on his final run. The handicapper has taken note but he is up against mainly out of form performers and if fit for his return he could be hard to beat. Hernando Royal is from a yard banging in the winners and he has strong claims on the pick of last season's form. However a bigger threat could be the Lady Herries trained Cleaver, a very consistent performer who will improve on a recent return at Newcastle. Of the others, Tromp won nicely enough last time out and could be vying for some place money, but in a none too competitive handicap Captain General gets the vote.
