HYPERFOCUS won twice last year but something went amiss in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket’s July meeting when last seen in action. Hugo Palmer’s colt is just preferred to a similar type in Ventura Blues, who landed a double last summer and has her first start since June. The latter makes more appeal than stablemate and recent Lingfield winner Juan Horsepower but Family Fortunes made a winning start at the latter track in February and could go well under Jim Crowley. Sayesse won four times last year before his form tailed off and drops in class on his reappearance.
Sayesse 16-1 (9-7) Hampered start, behind, never dangerous, 13th of 15, 19 1/2l behind Fields Of Song (8-10) at Newbury 6f (3) gs in Oct.
Hyperfocus (IRE) 14-1 (9-1) Keen close up, ridden over 2f out, weakened over 1f out, last of 9, 21l behind Boynton (9-1) at Newmarket 7f Grp 2 stks (1) gf in Jul.
Juan Horsepower 6-4fav (8-12) Made all, quickened approaching final furlong, ran on, won at Lingfield 5f hcp (3) pol in Mar beating Merry Banter (9-7) by 1 3/4l, 5 ran.
Family Fortunes 25-1 (9-5) Chased leaders, driven over 1f out, headway inside final furlong, ridden to lead final 100 yards, soon clear, ran on well, won at Lingfield 5f mdn stks (5) pol in Feb beating Rag Tatter (9-5) by 3 1/4l, 4 ran.
Berkshire Boy (IRE) 80-1 (8-9) Slowly away and veered badly left leaving stalls, always tailed off, last of 19, dist behind Mubtasim (8-9) at Doncaster 6f stks (2) gd in Sep.
Ventura Blues (IRE) 6-4fav (9-6) Tracked leader, led just over 1f out, driven clear inside final furlong, readily, won at Leicester 6f fll stks (4) sft in Jun beating Bridal March (9-0) by 3 1/4l, 5 ran.
