In depth

Verdict

Historic, Conquer, Elgar and Monty's Double look the principals in an open affair and the tentative vote goes to Historic. The selection was a good fifth in the Sun Alliance Chase at Cheltenham last time behind Rule Supreme and a reproduction of that effort would make him hard to beat here.Conquer rates the main danger on his second behind Polar Scout a couple of runs ago but he has since disappointed so can not be backed with any confidence. Elgar is another worthy of respect he was a fair fifth behind Mouncey Castle in a handicap last time and this looks easier. Monty's Double was a fair third behind Little Big Horse last time and is one of the least exposed in the field so is open to improvement but for the winner we return to Historic who ran so well last time out.
