Burning Shore was probably flattered by her proximity to easy winner Web Perceptions at the last meeting here and this is more likely to go to one of the hurdling newcomers with Mexican Pete getting the verdict over Frixos. The last mentioned, a winner of a handicap at Wolverhampton off a mark of 59 in April, failed to trouble the judge in five subsequent starts but clearly has some ability and has since left Paul Cole's yard to join the stable of Michael Scudamore. However, Mexican Pete was by some way the best of these on the level and looks to have been found a decent opportunity to open his account over hurdles at the first time of asking. Peter Hiatt's gelding has shown progressive form over timber this summer and, being out of the smart hurdler Eskimo Nel, is bred to do well at the winter game. He gets the vote. The Palletman was pulled up on his hurdling debut and may be better than he showed at Exeter, while Magic Red should have learned from his experience at Uttoxeter but Mexican Pete looks an interesting recruit to the juvenile hurdling ranks and looks the one to be on.
