In depth

Verdict

Westmorland is only a tentative selection in a modest contest, with Lazy Lena and Sticky End also respected. Another to bear in mind is Named At Dinner, who went close in a similar contest here last month. A market move would be interesting. Lucinda Russell's charge has a shocking strike-rate of just one victory from 46 previous starts, though. So he is not one to be going overboard with. Neither is Sticky End - despite being one of the least exposed runners in the field. His form has been modest so far and he needs to conclusively prove himself over the trip. It is interesting the gelding is dropped to this grade for his handicap debut, so cannot confidently be ruled out. Lazy Lena showed some promise when third at Uttoxeter on his latest outing - a repeat of which would see her go close in this company. That said, she is not noted for consistency, so needs to better her recent profile. Admittedly Westmorland has been expensive to follow and is on a long losing run, stretching back to May 2002. However, the James Moffat-trained gelding acts well at this track and, as he looks set to encounter his ideal conditions, it is not unfeasible for him to bounce back in this company.
