In depth

Verdict

Young Albert is taken to defy a penalty at the expense of Beau Largesse and Jessie May, with Greenock an interesting newcomer. Having made a winning start at Ayr last December, Young Albert was pitched in at the deep end next time, taking on some of the best bumper horses around at Aintree in April. Not disgraced in 13th place, he returned to action at Sedgefield just three weeks ago, and duly made a successful start over timber, despite looking green and in need of the experience. He should improve enormously, and can come out on top here, with conditions in his favour. Beau Largesse was beaten 25-lengths by the selection last time, and is held on that form, while Jessie May makes her debut over hurdles, but does have the assistance of Timmy Murphy. The colours of Trevor Hemmings, owner of the selection, will also be worn by Graham Lee on Greenock who looks a well-bred sort with plenty of scope. The market may reveal whether he is expected to go close, but the form horse is Young Albert who is the one to beat.
