At the weights there should be little to choose between Starstruck Peter and our selection MASTER WELLS here, but the latter it is who gets the vote. Jimmy Frost has his string in good shape at the moment and the Sadler's Wells gelding was a wide margin Exeter winner last time. That margin was exaggerated due to his chief rival tipping up at the last, but there looked little doubt that he would have won anyway. Although ideally he would prefer some cut underfoot, he has won on a sound surface and so there is genuine hope that he can back up that success. Starstruck Peter also goes on this sort of ground and stays at least as far as this. The yard's runners are not firing quite as well as that of the selection and although he can get involved he might have to give best today. Thethirdofthefourth was a heavy ground Exeter winner a couple of starts back. That was over 2m 1f, and he made an abortive attempt to step up to three miles back at that track last time. A previous run in Ireland suggests that he does stay this far and he also appears to go on most ground, so he could make the frame. Spiritwind gets this trip and doesn't seem to mind fast ground, but just looks very moderate and is hard to recommend. Beau Troubadour needs to improve a fair bit to take a hand and Master Wells can take charge.
