In depth

Verdict

Devious Company beat Golden Flame and March Law on his debut over track and trip and both of that pair ran well in last week’s Chesham Stakes at Ascot. Tom Dascombe’s colt has a penalty to carry but has the edge in experience on all-bar Burristo and that must count for something. Bagara was a £92,000 yearling who has plenty of stamina in his pedigree. Youth Spirit is more speedily bred but is also an interesting newcomer while Cairn Island cost 525,000gns and is a half-brother to several smart winners. LEGION OF HONOUR is by Wootton Bassett and was a £280,000 yearling. Roger Varian’s colt could be the pick of a potentially smart bunch of debutants today.
