ACCORDING TO PETE is taken to land the spoils with Our Vic and Fortification sure to have their followers. Malcolm Jefferson's charge has looked entirely progressive and appears able to show his form with give underfoot. His trainer has a rich record in his handling of good horses and the course-and-distance scorer is in off a featherweight this afternoon. Our Vic needs little introduction. He is nearing the autumn of his career but he is still capable of putting up a performance in a top grade event and the handicapper is at least allowing him a little bit of slack with his ratings. Fortification has won his last four runs on the spin. Still a novice, he has proved himself worthwhile of this rise in grade. Cloudy Lane won the race last year. He clearly handles Haydock Park and is sure to give another bold account. Mon Mome will be using this as a prep to another Grand National bid. Mr Strachan is not the most fluent of jumpers though has got plenty of speed between the obstacles. Prince De Beauchene ran creditably on reappearance though needs to improve upon that bare form to be good enough today. Jass was a tad disappointing at Cheltenham but as that going was patchy, it could be worth forgiving him that run. Kia Kaha has ran well at the course previously though has gone up plenty in the weights for that effort. According To Pete has the right profile for this race and is accordingly recommended.
