Verdict

IMPERIAL COMMANDER, a nose second in this last year, can stamp his class on the race. Reported to have come back into the yard fitter than after his previous summer in the field, the Gold Cup hero should be able to ease past his rivals here. His jumping is normally very good, especially when getting into a nice early rhythm and with the ground in his favour, and 22lbs clear of his nearest rival on official ratings, he should ensure the cheers abound in his local pub The Hollow Bottom. What A Friend looks the biggest danger; he is one of several from Ditcheat who could have been sent here and his trainer has high hopes for this dual Grade One winning chaser. Nacarat impressed with his win in the Charlie Hall Chase but this is a much tougher assignment and his main target is the King George VI at Kempton, so a bigger threat today may be Tidal Bay if this enigmatic character consents to put his best foot forward, especially over the fences. Planet Of Sound looks the best of the rest but this is a demanding reappearance.
