    Verdict

Never Will gets the call over a host of potential sorts to follow including Reservoir, Into The Shadows and Backgammon. Never Will shaped like a sure-fire future winner when second to Rehearsal over a mile at Newmarket 12 days ago, with quite a few decent animals from top southern yards behind. He tried to make the running that day but was just tapped for toe by a better rival, and similar tactics over this longer trip will make him hard to beat. Reservoir improved with each run last season and can pay to follow this term, although he will need this no doubt. Into The Shadows has been mainly tried in bumpers, and from the evidence of two outings under this code so far, will find this on the short side. It is interesting that David Loder sends up Backgammon, runner-up in testing conditions at Pontefract on his debut recently. On breeding, this evening's trip is certainly as short as he would want, but he will stay, and if Never Will starts to flounder, he could be the one to capitalize. We do not think that will happen, and Never Will can belie his name to score.
