In depth

Verdict

Awesome Ella was racing on the west coast last season and produced some fine runs. She ran in a maiden special weight at Del Mar in December that is working out brilliantly so has to be respected despite the lay-off. Key Biscayne returned from a very long lay-off with a close third over a mile in March, staying on late and suggesting this longer trip is in her favour. She got no sort of run in the early stages and did well to get into contention so has to be a threat. Aizu led for a long way and stayed on when headed when tackling a mile last time so the extra shouldn't be a problem. MO OF THE WEST, who cost a whopping $300,000, made her debut in a mile maiden that is working out well. She was bumped at the start and will have come on a bundle for the experience so can start paying her way. Starship Nugget made a very satisfactory debut when staying on over an extended 6f and will have come on enough to make her presence felt.
