In depth

Verdict

A tight opening contest, with DESERT STRIKE selected, with the main dangers probably being Abu Derby and Lady Vivien. Paul Cole's colt is the only course and distance winner in the field, and although bred for further, his one success to date was over the minimum trip here on his penultimate run. He's the yard's only runner on the card, and they've got a good strike rate here. The drop back may reward those backers who lost out when he went over 6 furlongs. Lady Vivien looks progressive and is the least exposed, with this her handicap debut on what's her fourth run. Abu Derby tries the polytrack for the first time after a string of near misses at Southwell. This also represents a step down in trip, and that looks to be a positive. It's a trappy little contest, and we marginally favour the claims of Desert Strike.
