made all, pushed along and quickened 3f out, driven 2f out, stayed on drew well clear final furlong
chased winner throughout, still close up when ridden and not quicken from 3f out, driven and no impression from 1f out
raced in 3rd, challenged going well 3f out, soon ridden, found little inside final 2f, soon no impression
in last place, reminders halfway, went 3rd 4f out, outpaced and ridden over 3f out, soon lost place, eased when no chance
Bandari is taken to put his flop in the Vodafone Derby behind him. He had been impressive when landing the Lingfield Derby trial, although that event probably took little winning, but Goodwood, just like Lingfield, has its undulations and will present no problems to the Johnston colt. On the face of it, First Charter has it all to do with Bandari on that Lingfield running, but he was clearly below his best that day and is better judged on his 3rd in the King Edward VII Stakes at the Royal meeting last month. With his yard in better form now he could prove a tough nut to crack. Izdiham, in the same colours as the selection, needs to improve for the step up in trip, while Nysaean, a respectable 4th in the Irish Derby, may be better with some give underfoot. Systematic is improving leaps and bounds and although this is another step up in class, he cannot be left out of calculations.
