      Verdict

      SO BELOVED (NAP) won this last year and looks the one to beat again this time round. David O’Meara’s charge chased home Nemoralia in a Group 3 at York last week and is fancied to confirm that running with third Jallota. The latter was not far behind at York, however, and finished ahead of the frustrating Convey in the Hungerford at Newbury before that when the latter looked less than straightforward, though Ryan Moore is back on board today. Breton Rock won the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket in June but would prefer softer ground while Tashweeq makes his belated reappearance having ended last year with a modest effort in a Group 1 in France. The remainder have something to find on these terms though Code Red has a shout on last year’s best form.

      So Beloved 11-2 (9-0) Steadied start, held up in mid-division, headway over 2f out, chasing leaders when slightly hampered over 1f out, ridden and went 2nd inside final furlong, kept on but never going pace of winner, 2nd of 10, 1 3/4l behind Nemoralia (8-6) at York 7f Grp 3 stks (1) gd in Aug.

      Opal Tiara (IRE) 8-1 (9-8) Raced wide close up, headway to chase leader over 2f out. led over 1f out, ridden and ran on, idled close home, won at York 7f hcp fll stks (2) gf in Aug beating Jadaayil (8-11) by 1 3/4l, 13 ran.

      Breton Rock (IRE) 11-4fav (9-3) In touch when came into view 2f out, headway to lead over 1f out, ridden and headed well inside final furlong, rallied to lead again post (poor visibility) (hand-timed), won at Newmarket 7f Grp 3 stks (1) hvy in Jun beating Adaay (9-3) by hd, 8 ran.

      Coulsty (IRE) Evensfav (9-4) Went right start, headway to track leader after 1f, led approaching final 2f, kept up to work inside final furlong, won at Thirsk 7f stks (3) gs in Jul beating Sound Advice (9-4) by 2l, 4 ran.
