In depth

Verdict

Modest fare but HAWK GOLD has a clear form chance if reproducing his latest effort when the only one to get close to the much improved Domino Dancer. That was his first run for around seven months and hopefully he can sustain that level after tumbling down the weights after a series of modest efforts. Robert Thornton is an interesting booking, likewise Richard Johnson for Act Gold. The latter has presumably been besieged with training problems, but showed the ability is still there when filling the minor placing here in April behind Rossbrin though he's obviously subject to the dreaded 'bounce' factor. It seems an eternity since Red Lancer won the 2004 Chester Vase and he harbours place claims here.
