In depth

Verdict

This is a poor race but something has to win it so we will side with Optimistic Alfies with Dr Mann and Star Glow being the main dangers. The selection is still a maiden after twelve outings and obviously is no word beater but he has not been the best handicapped horse in the world and now might be in with a shout has he has a nice racing weight to carry. He also caught the eye last time out when running into third place behind Solid As A Rock at Taunton. That form just might be good enough to land this poor contest so with that in mind is worth following. Dr Mann had been knocking on the door finishing second at both Uttoxeter and here over course and distance. In the process he was becoming a frustrating horse to follow and then ran poorly around Lingfield on heavy ground last time out. He is not one to trust but if back to his best would have the ability to win. But for the winner we return to Optimistic Alfies.
