Amadeus is given the vote in this novices' handicap chase with Sweet Minuet and Haafel put forward as the dangers. The selection is probably better over hurdles, but he ran well enough on his last outing over the bigger obstacles when second behind Lorient Express, and with this testing ground sure to suit he looks to have a big chance. Sweet Minuet looks as though she could make into a decent chaser but she fell last time out and still has plenty to prove at present. Haafel was disappointing last time but he had previously run well in a slightly better race than this at Plumpton when second behind Nathos. If he could reproduce that effort here then he could go close. Rakassa is useful over hurdles but was disappointing last time out over fences, but this mare is certainly one to keep an eye on. However, for the winner we return to Amadeus.
