      Verdict

Venetia Williams has a knack of striking with unexposed individuals and, as such BALLYVEENEY is fancied to make a winning handicap debut; possibly at the main expense of Geography and Midnight Chase. The last named was given a rating of 107 after making a winning debut at Perth last summer. He was not seen out again until May but showed he still retains ability with a solid round at Exeter last month. That run will have tightened him up and, from a 2lb lower mark, he should be capable of improving again. Geography has a consistent profile and acts well with sufficient cut in the ground. However he has been away from the action for 238 days so it would be a great training effort from Paddy Butler to send him out to victory on his seasonal debut. Therefore, it can pay to take a chance that the renowned steady approach from Williams has again unearthed another potential blot on and otherwise uninspiring handicap. The son of Lord Americo is likely to be suited by this step up in trip and in Sam Thomas - assuming his confidence has not be affected by high-profile overreactions to recent incidents - has a jockey who is more than capable of nursing him round to victory when he is seen at his best.
