In depth

Verdict

TOP OF THE RANGE's defeat of One Term in a bumper here in April has worked out well with the runner-up landing a Listed race at Cheltenham earlier this month. His long term future may lie over fences but he clearly has plenty of speed and can make a winning start to his hurdles career today with David Bass claiming a valuable 3lb. Valley Lad may well have beaten Bowntobebad on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon had he jumped a little better. The winner was well beaten at Ascot next time, however, and the progressive Bangor runner-up High Storm is just as interesting today. The latter's stablemates Salomo and The Bear Trap also have some scope and Ballyboker Boy tries his hand over timber having won a couple of point-to-points in Ireland earlier this year.
