In depth

Verdict

Gordon Elliott is striking while the Iron is hot with POORMANS HILL, who completed a four-timer, three of them over fences, with a hard-fought victory at Down Royal on Saturday. He has a 4lb penalty to carry but Katie O'Farrell's claim take scare of the extra and victory number five looks on the cards. Tomcoole Lad appears to be running as well as ever despite approaching his fourteenth birthday and made all for a comprehensive victory at Galway last week so an 8lb rise is unlikely to prevent another big effort. Old Time Melody pulled up in that race but was badly impeded and his earlier run on this track puts him in the picture. Katie Walsh gets the ride on The Bay Birch though her mount was a long way behind the selection at Downpatrick and was well beaten when runner-up at Punchestown last time. Rachael Blackmore's mount Hurricane Sky, four times a winner on the Flat, is 0-23 over jumps.
