Not the most auspicious end to the card but fortune favours the brave and it is OSBOURNE who is selected ahead of Thethirdoftheforth, Nearly A Breeze and Mad Jack Duncan. With only a handful of starts to his name, the ten-year-old does not necessarily have the most appealing of profiles. However his recent fourth to Kayf Aramis at Warwick has been irrefutably franked since and a mark of 100 for this handicap debut looks fair enough has a result. Nearly A Breeze paid the price for racing too keenly last time as he was well-held at Hereford but back at a track he likes and with the blinkers applied, it would be no big surprise to see him return to form. Thethirdoftheforth comes here on the back of a win at the track and as that was the first win of his career he is open to more improvement. However he takes a big step up in trip and has stamina to prove this afternoon. Sawpit Solitaire looks the pick of John Spearing's duo, and his form may be franked on Monday when the second from his last run, Alflora Dora runs, at Taunton. Tarateeno's latest run at Sandown was no disgrace and his previous win at Wincanton looks solid. A return to going right-handed might suit and a big run is expected. Paddys Honour is unexposed and has run behind some promising horses so far; his mark of 102 looks about right and his stable won this race last year. Hillridge and Might As Well are both consistent enough but neither has really threatened to win recently, so a bigger danger may be Delayed Approach. Tim Vaughan's gelding has been given a break since disappointing last time but his best runs have come on quicker ground and so today's conditions may be more to his liking and off a 5lb lower mark he is not one to dismiss. A competitive finale and Osbourne is selected.
