SOUTHFIELD VIC has been a beaten odds-on favourite in both starts over fences so far but he has a decent opportunity to make it third-time lucky here as forecast market rival Aso unlikely to make a quick reappearance after finishing a well-beaten third at Kempton on Friday. Buckhorn Timothy has won novice handicaps at Fontwell and Huntingdon this season but has to concede 6lb to the selection. It's even harder to fancy the returning Potters Cross and De Bene Esse.
De Bene Esse (IRE) 25-1 (10-12) Chased leaders, weakened from 3 out, tailed off, pulled up before last, at Taunton 3m mdn (5) hvy in Jan.
Southfield Vic (IRE) 4-6fav (11-0) With leader, led 6th to 9th, chased winner after, no impression from 3 out, 2nd of 4, 3 1/4l behind King's Odyssey (11-0) at Wincanton 2m 4f (3) sft in Dec.
Aso (FR) 4-1 (11-3) Tracked leaders, not fluent and lost a bit of ground on rivals 10th, never on terms after, stayed on same pace form 3 out, closed on 2nd last, 3rd of 4, 10 1/4l behind Josses Hill (11-0) at Kempton 2m 4f (2) sft in Feb.
Buckhorn Timothy 15-2 (11-0) Led until 1st, led 3rd, headed after 5th, led again next, not fluent 11th or 2 out, headed when left in lead last, stayed on, won at Huntingdon 2m 4f hcp (3) hvy in Jan beating Three Faces West (10-12) by 2 3/4l, 5 ran.
Potters Cross 9-2 (11-12) Mid-division, in touch before 3rd, ridden before 3 out, soon weakened and pulled up, at Doncaster 3m hcp (3) gs in Feb.
