It's a very long time since this had any bearing on the Derby. Mark Johnston has two entries and will be hoping for plenty of rain for Hartnell, whose three victories on ground with plenty of give have earned him a penalty. Stars Over The Sea won a maiden and a handicap before finishing last of five in a Haydock Listed contest and he'll need to do much better than that. John Gosden is represented by the Polytrack winner Marzocco and the ex-Italian Nonno Giulio but neither are in the classic though the former has an entry in the Dante. MOONTIME has already been gelded so won't be in the Derby but the son of Sea The Stars created a good impression when beating a subsequent winner at Newmarket in October and with plenty of scope is handed the vote. Winning a Beverley maiden wouldn't necessarily point to Epsom but Our Channel did it well and should win more races this term. Signposted won a couple of minor events before failing in the Tattersalls Millions at Newbury and Trip To Paris was beaten in a nursery on his final start in August.
