      Verdict

      Almendares is on the upgrade and had plenty in hand when landing a maiden a couple weeks ago but had earlier been beaten over three lengths by VANGUARD STAR over track and trip. The winner looks the type to go on to better things and can see off the challenge of Catherine Of Siena, who completed a double at the backend of last year before a very good third in an all-aged handicap. Dynamite Katie landed a 7f maiden in December and led for a long way over this trip the following month though had no answer to the odds-on Song For Whoever.
