        Verdict

        Aidan O’Brien sent out the winner in 2007 but this prize has stayed in France since. The Ballydoyle trainer runs Navan maiden winner The Gurkha while Newbury’s Horris Hill winner Crazy Horse returns to action for John Gosden. Simon Crisford’s First Selection looks to have a tough task but Birchwood represents Richard Fahey and could go well on his third at last year’s Breeders’ Cup. Surprisingly, this prize has escaped Jean-Claude Rouget so far but he sends a strong team led by ZELZAL. The latter won in good style at Chantilly last month to keep his unbeaten record intact and is preferred to stablemates Taareef, narrowly beaten by Dicton recently, and George Patton, beaten a neck by Zarak at Maisons-Laffitte. The latter also remains unbeaten and Alain De Royer-Dupre’s leading contender is preferred to the likes of Jimmy Two Times and Attendu.
