Verdict

A fine renewal with the placed horses from Epsom turning out against long-time ante-post favourite High Definition. Unbeaten over a mile at two, Aidan O'Brien's charge ran well enough behind Hurricane Lane in the Dante when probably not at his peak and no doubt has improvement in him, though the latter improved again to finish third at Epsom. Mojo Star, runner-up that day, is still a maiden though surely not for long but the vote goes to fourth-placed MAC SWINEY. He won the 2,000 Guineas here from stable companion and brilliant Newmarket and Royal Ascot winner Poetic Flare and can land another classic for his yard. Van Gogh, placed behind the selection in the Guineas, never got involved in the French Derby but it wouldn't be a huge shock to see him get into contention here.
